8 Reasons Why Superman Should Be In Shazam!

6. Their Comic History

Superman And Shazam
DC Comics

Shazam! and Superman have a long-standing and wide-ranging comic history that makes Superman the perfect fit for an appearance here.

Dating all the way back to the characters' inceptions, the two have been linked in one way or another. In 1939, Fawcett Publications launched its own comics division thanks to the success of superhero comics being published by National Comics at the time, such as Batman and Superman.

Fawcett Comics' circulation director, Roscoe Kent Fawcett, infamously asked the team to come up with a character who could be the company's own version of Superman, even suggesting that the hero's secret identity be that of a "10 or 12-year-old boy rather than a man".

After passing through the hands of a couple of different people, before landing in the laps of Bill Parker and Charles Clarence Beck. They wanted to name their character Captain Thunder, but that was already taken. So they settled on Captain Marvel, and made the iconic catchphrase he had to utter to turn from ordinary boy to superhero: Shazam!

The character went through all kinds of stuff after that, before becoming a DC character. And obviously, one of the first things DC writers had him do was fight against and then pair up with the man who had inspired it all; Superman. From the very beginning, Shazam! has been linked to Superman in an overt way and to ignore this in the character's very first cinematic outing would be a huge missed opportunity.
