4. Superman Is Pushed To His Mental And Emotional Limits And His Weakness Is Exposed
"Bad guys close in" comes next. Batman now officially beats Superman--the hand around the throat kind of victory. There is loads more collateral damage, and all the bystanders tremble in fear of Superman. He has lost in every way imaginable. Superman's weakness has been exposed, and society at large realizes that he's not a god, or even that great of a guy. This is the "all is lost" moment at minute 75. Afterwards, Superman flies off to the Fortress of Solitude to think about what he's done, which is the "dark night of the soul" phase. Rejected, bitter, hurt, broken, and upset, Superman stews. He thinks about his two dads and what they would do. He needs guidance, and out of this experience, he learns that Batman is absolutely right, and that he needs to
earn humanity's trust. He needs to show them that he can and should be trusted. That we can and should look up to them. He should be the example that Jor-El believed he could be in
Man of Steel, and up until now, he hasn't. Our second villain puts his/her plans into motion. Batman fails to stop them. At first, a bitter, jaded Superman hesitates to go save the day, thinking that humanity does not want to be saved by him. However, he snaps out of it. Maybe because Lois or Jor-El or Mama Kent makes him, or maybe he does this on his own, but he realigns his priorities, and grows up into the Big Blue Boy Scout that audiences have cherished for 75 years. He resolves to win back everyone's trust, and show Batman that he can be trusted.
