8 Surprise Horror Movie Sequels That Caught Fans Unawares

Back in the summer of 2017, filmmaker Adam Green and Britain's FrightFest had announced that they would be hosting a special 10th anniversary screening of 2007's Hatchet, Green's directorial debut which up to that point had spawned two sequels.
However, in what proved to be a pleasant surprise for fans of the gore-strewn slasher series, it transpired that the supposed anniversary screening was in fact that premiere of Victor Crowley, a previously-unannounced third Hatchet sequel, named for the franchise's fearsome antagonist played by genre icon Kane Hodder.
Not unlike any of the previous films in the series, Victor Crowley didn't necessarily set the world on fire, nor has it even had a wide release in all territories yet. Still, the most devoted fans of the franchise (long since dubbed the Hatchet Army by Green) seem to have been pleased with what they got.
There was also a nice circularity to the film being screened for the first time at FrightFest, as the London event also hosted the premieres of both Hatchet and Hatchet II.
