8 Things That Almost Happened In Indiana Jones Movies

1. Indy's Drawn-Out Battle With The Swordsman

One of the funniest moments in the Indiana Jones series comes in Raiders when Indy brings a gun to a sword fight.

The sequence plays out beautifully, teasing the audience into thinking they're about to witness an epic battle, only for Harrison Ford to cut the scene short in a way that makes far too much sense.

But the original script did call for an epic battle, whip-on-sword action which was painstakingly choreographed and would have taken days to film.

Motivated by a bad case of dysentery and the blistering Tunisian heat, Ford came up with the suggestion that Indy should just "shoot the sucker", and the scene became something else entirely.

Steven Spielberg was only too happy to grant the star's request, and not just because he knew it would make the sequence funnier. Time and money were two things he didn't have, and just shooting the sucker saved both.
