8 Things The DCEU Is Doing Better Than The MCU (So Far)
3. The Female-Led Films
Ignoring the pre-release backlash against the movie (which was completely unfair), Captain Marvel is one of the MCU's weaker offerings. It's not bad or anything, it's just mediocre, safe and the less said about its ghastly explanation for how Nick Fury lost his eye, the better. The MCU's first female-led film deserved a lot better.
As it should go without saying, the DCEU's superb Wonder Woman blew it out of the water and did an effortless job of mixing stunning spectacle with heartfelt character development.
The other female-led DCEU film, Birds of Prey, is a more mixed bag. The plot is messy and forgettable, but thanks to the amazing direction, action sequences and performances, as well as the general uniqueness of the whole thing, it's an absolutely fascinating superhero movie.
Ant-Man and the Wasp, the previous MCU film to Captain Marvel, is co-led by a woman, but unfortunately that one is worse than Captain Marvel and once again, it has nothing on Wonder Woman or Birds of Prey. Hopefully the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie will finally give the MCU its first great female-led film.
