In a phenomenally enlightening interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Reynolds revealed that - as many suspected and director Gavin Hood had heavily hinted towards - the reason Deadpool was so notably off in X-Men Origins: Wolverine came from studio interference.

Though Reynolds first being cast as Deadpool came with nothing but celebrations and fist-punching (the dude pretty much IS Deadpool in Blade: Trinity and had been trying to get a solo movie off the ground for years), behind the scenes it resulted in one of the most bizarre versions of any beloved character on screen, ever.

Calling it a "frustrating experience", Reynolds recanted how after a rushed script meeting during the 2007-08 writers' strike, studio heads were convinced that sewing DP's mouth shut was "going to work" and that "fans would go nuts" for it.

Naturally the idea of muting a character known for verbosity is straight-up the most dumb Hollywood thing possible, and the results went down in history as undeniably atrocious.
