8 Upcoming Horror Movies That Could Steal IT's Box-Office Crown
4. It: Chapter 2
The obvious candidate, It: Chapter Two was recently handed a 6 September 2019 release date, which means that the sequel is opening in the same month as the first.
Chapter One found great success after launching in early September, one of the quietest periods of the year in terms of box-office takings, something the movie capitalized on - and it was also helped by a shockingly poor August. Will Chapter Two have the same luck in 2019?
Currently, there are only a handful of movies set for release in September 2019: The Angry Birds Movie 2; Everest, an animated movie from DreamWorks; and an Untitled Warner Bros Event Film, the nature of which is unknown.
None of these movies should pose a threat to It: Chapter Two. Warner Bros also distribute It, so they wouldn't release two movies in the same month that might cannibalize each other. The two animated efforts, meanwhile, will pull in a completely different crowd.
August 2019 looks to be just as quiet, at least in the final two weeks. The first two weeks will see the releases of SpongeBob Squarepants 3, Artemis Fowl, and two Untitled Event Films; one from Warner Bros and one from Universal.
After the latter company's movie drops on 16 August, there's nothing else coming out for the rest of the month. If It: Chapter Two is any good, the franchise is perfectly positioned to fatten its already-large wallet.
