9 Actors Who Got High To Shoot Their Movies

3. Dan Aykroyd - Blues Brothers

It should be common knowledge by now that John Belushi was super coked up during the filming of anything he ever did. Belushi might honestly be known better at this point as a cautionary tale than as an actor. So, obviously he was sinus deep in a mountain of cocaine while playing the part of Jake Blues. But, perhaps a little more surprisingly, his onscreen brother, Elwood, was just as high. Aykroyd readily admits that he was using cocaine pretty heavily when he was filming The Blues Brothers, but that he never considered the amount he was snorting to be "in excess." (Which, in this case, probably means "not enough to stop my heart...for long.") He says he never purchased it for personal use and only partook on set. Aykroyd also told Vanity Fair that the budget for the cult classic included money in the budget for cocaine that was set aside to help them get through the long night shoots. Even though naps were likely still free, even in the 80s.
