7. This Is The End (AKA Jay And Seth Versus The Apocalypse)
This Is The End is basically an excuse for Seth Rogen to hang out with his mates, but as excuses go it’s an entertaining one. The film yields lots of belly laughs, the rapture setting is unique, and it has some surprisingly good CGI creatures.
The seed of the idea was a short film Rogen made in 2007, titled Jay And Seth Versus The Apocalypse. It features Rogen and BFF Jay Baruchel trapped in a dingy house after some unspecified disaster. They’re low on food and water, their house is infested with cockroaches, and they’ve grown to despite each other after being trapped for so long.
Given the light-hearted tone of the movie the short is surprisingly dark, and while the breakdown of their friendship is at the core of both movies the comedy of Jay And Seth Versus The Apocalypse is jet black.
