9 Cheesy 90s Action Films That Were Secretly Awesome

5. Lionheart (1990)

Van Damme Lionheart Jean Claude Van Damme: The king of cheesy action flicks. Of course, his two best (Kickboxer and Bloodsport) were released a few years too early for this list but he certainly filled the 90's with his own brand of awesomeness. None was cheesier than Lionheart. A deserter from the French Foreign Legion, Lyon is trying to reach the family of his murdered brother in Los Angeles. The only problem: he's in New York. How does a French Legionnaire with no money and on the run from his superiors find his way to L.A.? He puts his skill set to use in bare knuckle fights run in parking garages by the rich elite of New York, of course! After finding his way to L.A. he is roped into one last fight because somehow, the crazy lady who runs the underground fight game in New York also has the same pull in the city of angels. Jump kicks, uncomfortable splits and a last minute victory follow and the Legion of course leaves Lyon to go on his merry way, because - Happy Ending, yay! If JCVD was in it then it was cheesy. If JCVD was in it then it was awesome (Streetfighter excluded). Lionheart was the cheesiest, most awesome of them all. Long live the king.
