Another shoe-in movie, if the rumour mill is to be believed, is a depiction of the brilliant ongoing Vertigo title Fables. In fact, it's as good as confirmed. When you consider the current popularity of the ABC fairytale series Once Upon A Time - a series that, on the surface, appears to be strongly influenced by the aforementioned comic - its hardly a big surprise that this comic is getting the movie treatment. Indeed, Danish director Nikolaj Arcel has been strongly linked with helming the project. The concept of Fables is that well-known characters from fairytales (folklore, mythology and literature), such as Snow White, Prince Charming and the Big Bad Wolf, are living in a small area of New York City called Fabletown, after they were forcefully removed from their "Homelands" after they were conquered by Gepetto (also known as The Adversary). Any characters whose form/appearance prevents them from mingling with Earth's human society (such as monsters and talking animals) live in a specially designated location called "The Farm" in upstate New York to prevent them from drawing attention to themselves and to keep both them and the general public safe. It's a very fun concept and one that has proved enormously popular in the comics (seriously, it's one of the best comics currently being published) and, as we've previously touched upon, it worked for ABC with their ongoing television series Once Upon A Time. Like Sandman, it would likely be completely separate from the rest of the DC Cinematic Universe, as the characters reside within their own story and have no connections with the likes of Superman and Batman (and, if it's half as good as the comics, it only needs its own characters to succeed).
