9 Gloriously Trashy Movies

1. Street Trash (1987)

Street Trash Dvd Infamous 'melt' horror movie which has gained cult status due to its outrageous violence, sick gore scenes and toilet humour, Street Trash lives up to its title and is a must see film for trash film addicts. Just to reiterate: A MUST SEE! The story centres round a group of hobos and their ingestion of a 60 year old, rancid wine which is sold to them by a liquor store owner. This wine - 'Viper' - causes the hobos to melt. There are also two brothers trying to deal with the vicissitudes of homelessness, a Vietnam Vet stuck mentally in the war, an unstable cop trying to get to the bottom of the melting mystery, and a tyrant of a Mafia boss. The film spouts lots of memorable one-liners and dialogue which is positively Tarantino-esque with regards to the amount of swearing and racial slurs. It is also hysterically funny and in the poorest possible taste - for example, the cop beats a guy up, drags him to a men's room, sticks his fingers down his throat and pukes all over him. There is gang rape, genital mutilation, necrophilia and dismemberment - this sounds repulsive and indeed it is, but no matter how much dark material the film oozes, the overall tone of the film is overwhelmingly amusing. I guess it is one of those films that you just have to see to believe. It is crude, vile, cruddy, sleazy, grimy and nasty and therefore indispensable viewing for lovers of glorious trash. How could you not love a film where a severed penis is tossed about like a frisbee!

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
