9 Horror Movie Heroes Killed By Their Own Vices
7. Sam Loomis - Rob Zombie's Halloween II
While Rob Zombie's movies had several elements that loosely followed the basis of John Carpenter's iconic 1978 picture, Zombie's Halloween II veered off in a whole different direction to anything previously seen in Halloween lore.
There were white horses, there was a complete slimeball Sam Loomis (Malcolm McDowell), there were visions for Scout Taylor-Compton's Laurie Strode, there was a psychic bond of sorts between Laurie and Michael Myers, and there's an ending that suggests Laurie has fully followed in her brother's footsteps.
Previously, audiences were used to Donald Pleasence's Loomis; a desperate, oft-erratic figure who was looking to stop Michael Myers from causing any more carnage, while also looking to protect the residents of Haddonfield from the ominous presence of the Shape.
Pleasence's Loomis' was all-consumed by his obsession with Michael, yet McDowell's take on the character became more obsessed by his own fame and vanity than by his former patient by the time of this sequel.
Zombie's take on Sam Loomis had him glorifying Myers' rampage by cashing-in with books and media appearances designed to turn a quick buck from the horrors of that first Halloween movie. So driven by ego and 'celebrity', Loomis took his eye off the ball - and was brutally punished for this, as Michael stabs him to death at Halloween II's close.
