9 Movie Heroes Who Stupidly Turned Evil For The Sequel

48 Hrs. was the movie that propelled Eddie Murphy into the limelight, and it says a lot about his position that he went from his screen debut in the original to being top billed and highest paid for the sequel eight years later.

Another actor whose role changes a lot between movies is the late, great character actor Brion James, a fellow cop to Nick Nolte’s gruff detective. He doesn’t have a lot to do in the original except tease Nolte, but his role in the sequel was greatly expanded; in a twist that becomes more baffling the longer you think about it, it’s revealed he’s the mysterious drug lord The Iceman, who is responsible for the events of both movies.

It must be sheer luck Eddie Murphy’s character didn’t spot him during the original movie. Either that or it's a twist for the sake of it, and the product of a screenwriter trying desperately to tie the movies together, logic be damned.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
