9 Movie Sidekicks More Dangerous Than The Villain

4. Pintel And Ragetti - Pirates Of The Caribbean Series

At the start of the Pirates Of The Caribbean series, the primary role of these two was simply to provide a few brief comic breaks. Inseparable and endlessly loyal to each other, Pintel and Ragetti are the R2-D2 and C3-PO equivalents of the pirating world, but like their robot counterparts, they have a habit of causing more trouble than their presence is worth. To start off with, despite being loyal to each other, their outward loyalty is pretty much available to whoever turns out to be the highest bidder. Villains to begin with, they're soon apparently on the side of the story's heroes, but are in fact only taking part in proceedings for their own benefit. For example, under the guise of "removing temptation", they steal the Dead Man's Chest for a period of about three minutes, only to then lose it again. Somehow, despite the pair's questionable motives, the likes of Captain Jack Sparrow still allow them aboard as part of his crew. At least having somebody like Davy Jones on board would be a little bit more predictable in its danger. Pintel and Ragetti seems a little like tempting fate. In short, Pintel and Ragetti can't be trusted with anything, partly due to their shifting loyalties, and partly because of their continuing incompetence. Ragetti is more likely to be found chasing after his false eye than being genuinely helpful, whereas Pintel is often far too busy scheming for his own gain, usually leading to a worsening of most situations for just about everybody. Luckily, they're a funny pair and are welcome throughout the pirate adventures. Just don't count on them to pull through in a difficult situation.
