9 Movies So Annoying They Lose You In The First 60 Seconds
1. Where Is Cady's African Accent? - Mean Girls
It's addressed a number of timeS throughout the 2004 cult-comedy Mean Girls that Lindsey Lohan's Cady Heron spent a large chunk of her early life in Kenya due to her research zoologist parents having to move over to Africa for their work.
Said moving to a whole new continent also involved Cady ultimately being homeschooled by her mom and paps up to the age of 16, a fact that is seemingly pumped into the flick in the opening minute as a lazy attempt to paper over the fact the central figure of the film doesn't boast even a hint of an African accent.
But Cady actually mentions pretty early into the film that she "had a lot of friends in Africa". So, for her to not even possess something of a twang after spending the vast majority of her life in Kenya, as noted in the first minute or so of backstory, and socialising with the locals feels entirely bizarre and somewhat unrealistic from the get-go.
Most folks' voices change after spending a year or so in a different part of the world, or even country! But Cady was somehow able to maintain a completely unaltered American accent on the back of spending her younger years on an entirely different continent.
