9 Movies With Way Too Many Plot Twists
3. Swordfish
Swordfish is a glossy thriller that could only have been made in the early 2000’s, and is best remembered for Hugh Jackman’s “interview” scene and for Halle Berry briefly forgetting to wear a bra.
The screenwriter must have fancied himself as the next Tarantino since he loads scenes with hip dialogue, like John Travolta’s opening monologue, where he laments the amount of “sh*t” Hollywood makes; oh, the irony. This scene is setting up that events aren't what they seem. The first big reveal is that Berry’s henchwoman is an undercover agent, who appears to get killed by Travolta but this turns out to be a trick.
Jackman is constantly being tricked or outsmarted throughout, and the ending goes for a Usual Suspects-style twist. Travolta fakes his death and goes into hiding - alongside Berry - to hunt down some terrorists with their stolen money. The weird thing is this is made to look like a happy outcome, despite the fact he killed a lot of innocent people along the way.
