9 Sequels Trapped In Development Hell (That Will Never Happen)

3. Dredd 2

Hellboy 3

Dredd was a great throwback to the stripped down action movies of the eighties, yet despite strong reviews, it failed at the box office. In the years since it’s drawn a sizable fanbase who are crying out for another adventure with Karl Urban and his manly chin, but the studio is ignoring them.

Before the movie came out writer Alex Garland spoke of two more possible adventures; one would deal with Dredd’s origin, and the other would feature the Dark Judges. Even Garland – a lifelong Dredd fan – has confessed a sequel won’t happen due to the weak box-office, and he’s since moved on to other projects like Annihilation.

Even more damningly the producer made a video showing how bad Dredd fared financially, and how those numbers are scaring away potential investors despite his best efforts.

Fans of Dredd shouldn’t get too disheartened; recently there's been talk of bringing Urban back for a Dredd TV series on Netflix or Amazon, and the actor supports the idea. Whatever happens next, though, the odds of seeing Dredd 2 in cinemas are remarkably bleak.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
