9 Sequels Trapped In Development Hell (That Will Never Happen)

4. Beverly Hills Cop IV

Hellboy 3
Paramount

Eddie Murphy is a classic example of what happens when an actor gets seduced by money; the young, edgy Murphy of the eighties gradually gave way to the lazy guy who did lame family comedies for large cheques, and his boredom with the whole thing was palpable.

Fans will always love him for Beverly Hills Cop, though, and a fourth movie has been in Development Hell for at least a decade. Murphy himself said the third one was awful, and another movie would have to have a great script. Brett Ratner was attached at one point but seems to have moved on. Murphy later made a cameo in a Beverly Hills Cop TV pilot, which would have followed Axel’s son.

While the pilot failed it renewed interest in part four again, but it's no closer to reality. It was removed from Paramount’s release slate last year, and Murphy has enough money not to care. Plus Murphy isn't the draw he was twenty years ago, and the studio is edgy about making a huge budget R-rated movie.

It would be nice to see a funny Eddie Murphy film again though; it’s been so long.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
