9 Superheroes Who Have Been Played By Three Or More Actors (And Who Did It Best)

2. Spider-Man

Marvel's golden boy Spider-Man got his first film in 1977. This made-for-TV movie would serve as the pilot for a TV series, which itself spawned two more films. Throughout all of this, Peter Parker was portrayed by Nicholas Hammond, who genuinely cared about the project and was able to turn in a decent performance, in spite of how low-budget the show was and how dreadfully it's aged.

Among fans, however, the real debate over who the best Spider-Man is begins with Tobey Maguire, who donned the Webhead's suit in Sam Raimi's Spidey trilogy from 2002-2007. While Spider-Man 3 was a colossal creative flop, the first two were pretty fantastic, largely due to Maguire's emotional performance as his character was forced to learn the hard way what it truly means to be a hero.

Spidey got the reboot treatment in 2012 with The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel. In both films, the character was played by seasoned performer Andrew Garfield, who utterly nailed the one thing that was missing from Maguire's original performance: Spider-Man's trademark sarcasm and sense of humor. This made his performance exceptionally entertaining, and it's kind of a shame he didn't get a third film like Maguire did.

However, after Sony and Marvel Studios cut a deal in regards to the Spider-Man movie rights, Peter Parker was recast as Tom Holland so the character could finally make his long-awaited MCU debut. Holland certainly didn't disappoint either, as he was one of the most entertaining parts of Captain America: Civil War. He would then carry his first solo film to success, turning in a performance that was both serious and seriously funny.

Who Did It Best: This is probably the closest call on this list, but at the end of the day, you have to give this one to Tom Holland. Maguire perfectly captured the emotional side of Spider-Man, and Garfield did the same for Spidey's humorous side, but Holland was the one who found that perfect balance. (It's also refreshing to see a teenaged Peter Parker being played by someone who actually looks like a teenager.)
