9 Things Spectre Needs To Satisfy Diehard Bond Fans

7. A Q Gadget Rundown

Q branch has been an integral part of the Bond franchise since From Russia with Love in 1963. Played by the Welsh actor Desmond Llewelyn in every Bond feature until 1999, Q was a crotchety scientist in charge of constructing elaborate gadgets that kept Bond alive throughout his various adventures. Part of the joy of pre-Craig Bond was watching Q give Bond a rundown on the new gadgets Q invented, ones that would inevitable play a part in an off the wall setpiece. Q and Bond€™s snarky banter also provided some welcome comic relief. The first two Craig features left Q€™s jokey asides and gimmicky gadgets on the cutting room floor in the interest of keeping things grounded. Thankfully, Skyfall brought a much younger version of Q back, but with a decidedly toned-down gadget scene. This was a step in the right direction. Now that Mendes has broken the ice and established a modern day Q, the stage is set for Q to give Bond a frazzled breakdown on an array of new gadgets. Mendes can still bring the wow factor while keeping things somewhat based in reality, which means (unfortunately) Craig will probably not take to the sky piloting a jet pack.
