9 Upcoming Movies That Sound Cool (But Will Probably Suck)

8. Stan And Ollie

Stan and Ollie
Entertainment One Films

A biopic about one of the most iconic double acts of all time, Stan and Ollie has all the hallmarks of a solid Oscars contender on paper. Written by the guy behind Philomena and starring the always-reliable John C. Riley and Steve Coogan, there's no shortage of talent on board, and the history of Laurel and Hardy is long overdue the big-screen treatment.

Unfortunately, the recent trailer has highlighted the pretty underwhelming direction the biopic could end up going down. It's not that the material looks totally bad per se, it's more that even from the short look at the movie, you can very quickly pinpoint what it is. You can imagine how every single plot point plays out, and even the cinematography and score clues you into how the project could be steeped in sentimentality and ultimately play it a little safe.

As of now, the ceiling for quality seems to be "fine and inoffensive", while there's plenty of room to drop the ball completely.
