A History of Horribly Haunted Objects in Horror Films

The EVIL T.V.

They€™ve planted themselves in the center of homes all over North America, but don€™t be fooled by their charm, their comfort or convenience, even if they€™re commercial free. Trust me, televisions are evil. Here to prove it is the adorably innocent Carol Anne from Poltergeist who gets pulled into the spirit world because of a seemingly harmless tube television set. Exploiting the dangers of television has been one of horrors favorite shticks, mostly because the genre is slightly narcissistic and loves referencing both itself and its medium. Most of the time however, the evil T.V. just comes off as a silly gag like the killer broadcast in Halloween III: Season of the Witch, the chase through channels in Shocker, or the seductive robot death in the infamous Leprechaun 3. Very few live up to the genuine creep-out factor of the ghostly whispers hidden in the static of Poltergeist.

I have a keen, almost obsessive fascination with the macabre. It has lead me from a quiet life growing up in a small town to where I am now; creating horrific works about horrific things in many different mediums including films, short stories and essays. I live life by a simple motto: learn to like the dark, cause eventually, it'll come for all of us (lightening flashes and thunder claps)... but it ain't so bad.
