A Quiet Place Part II Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

6. The EXCELLENT Prologue Sequence

By far the strongest part of the movie is its chilling prologue sequence, which depicts the events of "day one" when the alien invasion suddenly kicked off without warning.

Though we know what's coming, the scene is a mini-masterpiece of filmmaking craft - a deliriously thrilling short film which compellingly conveys the chaos of that day while still retaining a sense of mystery.

This is the single sequence in the film that feels like it truly benefits from the expanded budget, with its horrifying depiction of a small town being violently savaged by the monstrous creatures.

The scene alone confirms Krasinski's confidence behind the camera as an action director, and it's a shame the film never gets close to this level of pulse-racing kineticism again - even though, as a "prequel" scene, we know that the central characters are all safe.
