Aladdin Trailer Breakdown: 10 Things You Need To See

5. The Performances Look Shaky

Aladdin Genie Will Smith
Disney

One complaint or fear that this trailer does absolutely nothing to assuage is that the cast may not exactly be up for the task at hand.

If anything, the trailer is so busy trying to sell audiences on Will Smith's incarnation of the Genie that the actual leads of the film, Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, hardly even get a line in. Heck, up until this trailer, neither one of them had even gotten a line in any of the other marketing. And the lines they do get here don't serve them very well.

Similarly, Marwan Kenzari's Jafar gets a good bit of dialogue in this trailer but it leaves so little of an impact you'd be forgiven forgetting it even happened.

Ultimately, the few times the trailer gives us a glimpse of the film coming down to just people talking, it grinds to a dead halt because of how stilted and shaky the performances feel.
