The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer - 6 Things We Learned

2. Harry Osborn: Green Goblin?

Screen Shot 2013 12 05 At 5 07 00 Pm Fans have been speculating and debating whether or not Norman Osborn would be making his iconic transition into the Green Goblin in this film. Some believed it was too soon to do so, while others hinted that maybe it wasn't Norman who became the Goblin, but his son Harry (played by up-and-comer Dane DeHaan) instead. Earlier this week Sony released a banner for the film showing what appeared to be a DeHaan as the Goblin, and this trailer confirms that plot detail. Though we're not outright told that Harry becomes the Goblin, we're shown brief glimpses of it, as well as our first glimpse at the sick and dying Norman (played by Chris Cooper). Goblin We still don't know how big of a role DeHaan's Goblin will have, or if it's just a way for the studio to set up a villain for one of the future films. It may be a bit premature for them to introduce Harry and jump straight into his villainous role, but we'll just have to wait and see what they have planned for his character. Regardless of how big of a role it is, Harry becoming the Goblin is an interesting plot point and something that will feel very personal to Peter. The Goblin has always been Spider-Man's arch-nemesis, and making that person one of his friends, rather than the father of one of his friends, turns that rivalry into something much more emotionally engaging.
