Ant-Man And The Wasp: 11 Big Implications Of Marvel's Announcement

9. Are Marvel Struggling To Get Their Target For Captain Marvel?

In the excitement that greeted Ant-Man And The Wasp's announcement and the intrigue driven by those three mystery 2020 movies, the question of what now happens to Captain Marvel was swallowed up slightly. Obviously, Marvel span it as just a minor shift backwards, but this isn't the first time Captain Marvel has been unceremoniously booted out of her slot in favour of male-led movies, and the more it happens, the more these questions start to arise. Casting an eye over the reactions on Twitter to the move, the mood was barbed to say the least: with accusations of tokenism mixed in with jokes suggesting that Marvel might regret actually having to make Captain Marvel after announcing it. That's unlikely, because it feels like too easy an accusation, but could it be that Marvel simply cannot get the talent they're looking for? There's still no director or lead actor, despite the fact that almost every other property in Phase 3 (bar Inhumans) has at least one of those locked. Yes, announcements are expected soon, but will they reveal that Marvel actually had to shift the film back to accommodate their first choices? That might be the only way any of the vocal critics will drop their accusations of foul play.
