Aquaman: 23 WTF Moments
2. The RIDICULOUS Music
For the most part, the score for Aquaman is incredible. We get some very obviously Tron-influenced electro music that makes the whole thing feel very late '80s (and consciously so, by the look of it) and some pretty tradtional bombastic comic book movie music.
And then the soundtrack loses its entire mind at two points. First, when Mera and Arthur go to the Sahara and jump out of the plane, we get the absolute worst cover ever featured in a movie as Pitbull murders Toto's Africa. James Wan claims it's a reference to the Fast & Furious movies, but frankly, there's absolutely no excuse for it. Nor for most of his music, really.
Secondly, when the characters go to Sicily, James Wan decides to use a terrifyingly bad romantic ballad that explains the dynamic between the two as if it's Sebastian the Crab singing "Kiss The Girl" in The Little Mermaid. Might as well be a sledge-hammer to your face.
And horribly, both songs are nothing like the rest of the soundtrack so they stick out even more like sore thumbs.
