Aquaman Final Trailer Reactions: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
4. The Stunning Art Direction & Cinematography
If the visual effects are a bit of a mixed bag, the moment-to-moment visuals are actually pretty spectacular, especially in terms of the movie's art direction and cinematography.
Wan clearly has a firm handle on the heightened look he was shooting for, and even though the CGI doesn't always realise it sufficiently, there's an agreeably operatic sweep to most of the trailer's images.
It sure doesn't hurt having Wan's frequent collaborator, Oscar-nominated cinematographer Don Burgess (Forrest Gump) along for the ride.
His sumptuous, atmospheric work with Wan on The Conjuring movies alone should ensure the shot selections are on the more ravishing side of superhero fare.
Considering the DCEU's movies to date have been a bit flat and rusty in the design department, this is certainly the franchise's most visually ambitious and interesting project to date.
