Arnold Schwarzenegger: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

1. Mr. Freeze - Batman & Robin (1997)

If a comic book character, who€™s main deal is Ice, says the phrase €œIce to see you€ without any sense of irony, then you may as well turn it off there, as it€™s not likely to get any better. If I recorded myself taking a dump on a Batman graphic novel and posted it on YouTube for the world to see, then I€™d have achieved what Schumacher achieved with Batman and Robin. Again, I can€™t fully blame Arnie for his erroneous performance as Mr. Freeze, but I still can€™t help but fill with rage whenever I think about it. I mean, €œIce to see you€? Are you f*cking for real Schumacher?! Schwarzenegger is at his very poorest here €“ the more you try to force the man into a gimmick he€™s not comfortable with, the worse he gets. He€™s great at showing up, kicking major ass, jotting down a few names, and spitting out a one liner over a room full of corpses in army uniforms. That€™s what we pay for after all. But trusting with the subtlety required to make a comic book movie villain believable, to toe that line between realistic and supernatural, without it descending into the banal, is a biiiig ask for a performer like Schwarzenegger. In the end, he fails as Mr. Freeze, but then again everyone in that movie failed as whoever they were playing. We can€™t fully blame Arnie, or Clooney or Chris O€™Donell €“ the blame gun must be levelled directly at Schumacher. For shame, Schumacher. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRH-Ywpz1_I So there you have our 5 favourite - and 5 least favourite of course €“ Schwarzenegger performance, from throughout his unique career.
