5. Sabrina (1954)
Fresh from her Oscar-winning turn as a runaway princess, Audrey turned her sights on a romantic comedy helmed by legendary director Billy Wilder who transformed 'Sabrina Fair', a successful Broadway play, into an iconic Cinderella story that would in itself become a template for nearly every rom-com for the past sixty years. The film itself is a delightful tale that skillfully interweves the fates of two families living under one roof - the Larabees, a WASP conglomerate family and the Fairchilds, a servant father and daughter who work in the mansion. It's sweet and tart at the same point, often tempering the more emotional beats - including mentions of suicidal thoughts - with some warm, good-natured humour and a timeless elegance to the whole thing. It's a far cry from the lifeless comedies of the past few modern decades and with solid support in William Holden and Humphrey Bogart, Hepburn gets a chance to truly shine in a delightful, enchanting flick.
