Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 11 Ways It Was Almost Completely Different
6. The Title
Though the film was named after 2013 Marvel comic arc 'Age of Ultron', it's in no way a true adaptation. Kevin Feige confirmed as much early on:
"We came up with a few titles, but every month a new comic book appears, and 'Age Of Ultron' is a great title."
Intriguingly, Feige also hinted that there was actually a short-list of similar titles that included the villain's name, but not the exact name of that arc:
"We had a few other 'Of Ultrons', but that was the best one. So we're borrowing that title, but taking storylines from decades of Avengers storylines."
So presumably it could have been "Wrath Of Ultron", "Return Of The Ultron" or "Night Of The Living Ultron" then.
Would It Have Worked?
Whether they care to admit it or not, calling it Age Of Ultron allowed Marvel and Whedon to trade on the appeal of an iconic story arc. They might not have actually used it as a source, but it undoubtedly fed into the hype-building stage.
And as titles go, it has that certain je ne sais quoi about it.
