Avengers: Age Of Ultron - 11 Ways It Was Almost Completely Different
5. Captain Marvel Was Set To Appear
Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson were both rumoured to be the front runners for the role of Carol Danvers in Age Of Ultron before the Phase 3 plans changed and she was given her own stand-alone for 2018.
Apparently early drafts of the film introduced her in some way, probably as one of the characters who graduated to the second Avengers team at the end of the film. Ultimately though, Marvel delayed her introduction.
Would It Have Worked?
Establishing Danvers as an existing character in he MCU before her stand-alone bow in Phase 3 is theoretically sound, since saturation with the audience (particularly those who aren't as well-versed with the comics) is always smart.
But then Age Of Ultron was already looking over-long and heavily populated before you even start talking about new characters. Considering Falcon was all but cut, having another character to share the screen with would likely have meant someone else would have suffered a similar fate.
