Avengers: Doomsday - Character Breakdown

Avengers Assemble!

Even the most ardent fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would agree that things haven't been the same since Avengers: Endgame, and certainly not for the better. The Multiverse Saga has felt disjointed to say the least, particularly when compared to the Infinity Saga, and the franchise has arguably seen more misses than hits since the end of Phase Three.

There hasn't even been one overarching narrative to follow like with Thanos and his Infinity Quest, and it hasn't helped that off-screen issues have forced a big change of plans. However, after the recent mega casting announcement, we are now officially on the road to Avengers: Doomsday.

27 names were shown on the back of 27 chairs (though there are sure to be more to come), all confirmed to be appearing in the fifth Avengers film in 2026. Some have been in the franchise for over a decade, some haven't been seen for years, while others have enjoyed only a short time in the MCU so far, or are even coming in from other worlds.

Each character has taken a different journey to get to this point, and equally, each character has something different to offer the movie.

The Avengers have been scattered ever since the Multiverse Saga began, pretty much all going their separate ways after the Battle of Earth against Thanos (Josh Brolin), and it seems as though not many are returning to fight Doom. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is one of only three official Avengers confirmed to appear so far.

The God of Thunder's last involvement in the MCU came with Thor: Love and Thunder, the woefully underwhelming follow-up to Ragnarok. More mystical journeys across the cosmos was essentially just another week for Thor, though he did come out of it in a very different place.

In fact the character may not be coming to Doomsday alone, as the post-credit scene of Love and Thunder saw him teaching his new adoptive daughter, Love (India Hemsworth), the ways of fighting. Unless Brett Goldstein is going to appear, chances are the set-up for Thor vs Hercules will be completely ignored, and the demigod will return to Earth with his daughter looking for a fight.

As potentially the only OG Avenger involved, unless Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) or the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) rock up, Thor will be an integral part of the story, and will as always be one of the heaviest-hitting weapons our heroes have in their arsenal.
