Avengers Endgame: 15 Under-Appreciated Moments (That Deserve More Love)

9. LGBTQ+ Rep In Marvel's Biggest Box Office Hit

Avengers Endgame Support Group

A small, nearly insignificant scene, if not for the fact that not a single MCU film has presented any overt LGBTQ+ presence before it, the opener after the 5 year time skip, where Steve sits with survivors in a support group, presented one of the film's directors playing a character speaking of his date with another man.

Given that this kind of content would often warrant a ban or censorship in many countries, the fact that it comes in Marvel's most lucrative and record-breaking film is a small but significant step in changing the Hollywood film landscape, where LGBTQ+ rep has been neglected up until very recently.

There are many LGBTQ+ characters in the Marvel Universe, including heroes and villains, as well as important recurring characters in the comics. Some of the most prominent count among the Avengers and their legacy team, the Young Avengers, a team that many fans speculate will be in future MCU instalments.

Hopefully, this tiny but overt bit of rep is a sign that the Blockbuster titan of Disney-Marvel is moving forward in that regard, and not back.
