The MCU has truly found its footing over the last 10 years. With some rockier entries in the earlier years (looking at you, Thor: The Dark World) it seems that the kinks have slowly but surely been worked out in the most recent phase.

Truly, when building a universe as diverse as the MCU, a challenge can be presented in the form of how to one-up the last entry. There’s always going to be a need for expanding lore, and a bigger bad that needs thwarting, but with the spectacle that was Infinity War, Kevin Feige and company have high expectations to meet.

Part of what made Infinity War so good was that it hit the ground running. Picking up immediately where Thor: Ragnarok left off, the devastation was swift and the energy was consistent through the film. While the Russo’s have certainly shown their capabilities with their past entries, what we’ve seen of Endgame so far suggests less of a high-paced outing like Infinity War.

Granted, the only footage shown in the trailers dropped thus far are in the first bit of the film, there is a lot suggesting that Endgame will have heavier beats of emotional character development. There is also a certain amount of time required to explore the universe post-snap and to set the stage for the coming conflict.

While Infinity War had a whole roster of films that came before to put all the pieces in position, Endgame will have a minimal amount of time to show the new status quo before jumping into the hearty sections of the story.
