Avengers: Infinity War - 23 New Secrets Revealed
8. Why Thanos Didn't Go For The Stones Earlier
There have been some theories published since Infinity War was released suggesting why Thanos hadn't moved for any of the Infinity Stones before now, with a suggestion that he was allowing some of his enemies to be weakened first. But that's incorrect, according to the commentary, which estbalishes that he actually didn't because he simply didn't know where the Soul Stone was.
It wasn’t until Nebula tried to assassinate him and told him about Gamora knowing when she was tortured that he had what he needed.
There's also a qualification on how Thanos uses the Gauntlet and how it was specifically designed to weaken him while he had it. Without some sort of rule, Thanos would have been too powerful for anyone to stop, so the writers made it so he had to close his fist to use the Stones, so the Avengers and Guardians simply had to stop him closing his hand.
7. Why Thor Met The Guardians
Originally, the Infinity War script was started in January 2016, before Thor: Ragnarok was even written so obviously thr decision to introduce Infinity War where that film ended wasn't the first plan. There were apparently lots of ideas where to start before that.
But teaming up Thor and the Guardians proved to be a successful choice. The writers reveal in the commentary that it was chosen in order to bring some of the characterisation and tone over from Ragnarok as the Guardians would obviously suit more humour than the Avengers.
Not everything was so fluid in the script - one line was in there all the way through. Wong’s line “I wouldn’t say no to a tuna melt” was in every single draft of the script. Obviously a favourite.
