3. Loki

Cause of Death: Neck snapped.

Loki's (Tom Hiddleston) death was widely expected ahead of Infinity War's release, and it certainly got the movie off to a grim start. After Thanos kills Heimdall, Loki presents himself as a possible aide to the Mad Titan, which is ultimately a ruse as Loki attempts to stab Thanos.

Thanos easily stops him, though, grabbing him, choking the life out of him and snapping his neck with a certain relish. Loki sure went out like a champ, though, telling Thanos with his final breath, "You'll never be a god."

Seeing such a beloved anti-hero die in such brutal fashion was the ultimate demonstration that Thanos meant business, and Thanos' assurance of "No resurrections this time" was apparent confirmation that he wouldn't be magicked back to life in a future film.

Loki's death also did a fantastic job furthering Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) character development and providing him with the ultimate motivation to bring Thanos down.
