Avengers: Infinity War - How ALL 18 MCU Movies So Far Tie In
11. Thor: The Dark World
Mentions Of Infinity Stones?
The Dark World might have been bad, but it can't be retconned out of existence because it introduced the Reality Stone in the shape of the Aether (though that revelation came later). It also introduced The Collector, who seemed to have his own agenda to collect all of the Stones (probably for the sake of collecting rather than gaining their powers). Expect him to be killed off for the Aether that was given to him at the end of The Dark World.
In that same sequence, the first mention of having more than one Infinity Stone in one place beign dangerous was also mentioned.
Relevant Story Details
Intriguingly, The Dark World was the first real mention of the multiverse in the MCU, with the finale including Thor hopping around through portals as he sought to thwart Malekith. Apparently, both Infinity War and Avengers 4 will rely on the multiverse heavily as part of the story, though it's not clear how yet.
Again, the biggest story point here other than the multiverse stuff is Loki's deceptive nature and how quickly he'll change allegiance if it serves his own agenda. Because that's probably what he'll do at the start of Infinity War when he comes face to face with Thanos again.
And it shouldn't be underestimated how important Loki's deception and banishment of Odin will prove to Thanos' dominion of the galaxy. Because with the All-Father still in action, it simply wouldn't have been possible. Thanks Loki.
