Batman: 8 Reasons Affleck Must Make Arkham Asylum (& 3 He Shouldn't)
2. It Has A Ready Made Legacy
It might be a little premature to start looking too far into the future beyond the stand-alone Batman film that doesn't even have a name yet, but that's precisely what Warner Bros should already be doing.
While this Batman is already an established figure in a "lived-in" world, that doesn't mean he's at the end of his character arc, and if Affleck's first solo movie does well, there's no reason the studio won't be keen to get him back again. The alternative, in fact, would be ludicrous.
The appeal of Arkham Asylum in that respect is that it works as a sort of soft-reset for the Batman universe. Affleck's Batman could well have cleaned Gotham up entirely before moving into semi-retirement, so having him drawn to Arkham to face every single one of those figures would make sense. And as the end of Arkham Asylum sees every villain subsequently freed, the franchise beyond that immediately gets a host of villains who have already been seeded and who are once again at large to commit crimes in their own arcs.
