Batman: 8 Reasons Affleck Must Make Arkham Asylum (& 3 He Shouldn't)
1. It's Basically Die Hard: Batman
At the end of the day, the single most compelling reason for adapting Arkham Asylum is how well it fits in with the image of Batman we've already seen built in Batman v Superman. This hulking, muscular brute is very much an aged action hero drawn back into the rat's maze of criminals, wizened by his experiences, tenacious and not afraid of using extreme methods.
In other words, he couldn't be more like John McClane if he tried.
There's something irresistibly magic about the idea of flipping expectations of a Batman movie and having the star of the show trapped like a rat up a drainpipe and pursued by the people he's locked away over the years. There could even be some scope for a switch towards the horror genre if Killer Croc and Clayface or even Man-Bat are introduced as traditional movie monsters.
It's just a gloriously rewarding idea, that makes Arkham Asylum stand head and shoulders above the other possibilities for adaptation.
But then again, is this really a cut and dry issue? Not exactly, there are also reasons why Affleck might be better suited to another story entire.y And here's why...
