2. James Gordon
While The Dark Knight Trilogy brought us exciting views on many of the stalwarts, the standout for me has to be Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon. Tying the character directly into Batmans origin made for some cracking recurring beats, culminating in the best of Bales cryptic identity reveals. Itd be easy to cut him out for fear of skirting too close to whats come before, but if we get Oracle the Commissioner has to appear in some form.
First Choice: Michael Douglas Initially this choice feels like a hokey reference to Wall Street - there he was also a (morally completely different) Gordon and Mulligans father - but while its out there, hes the best man for the job. If were in a Gotham where Batman is just part of the furniture, we can go to the opposite of what Oldman did in The Dark Knight Rises and have a content, rested Gordon who is on the brink of natural retirement. Over his career Douglas has proven himself a versatile actor and this would be a great way to capitalise on his post-Liberace hype.
Worth Considering: Leonardo DiCaprio For no reason other than he is one of the best actors working today, we should get Leonardo DiCaprio as ol Jim Gordon. Having never shown any interest in the superhero genre I've just about accepted well never see him suit up to fight good or evil, but can just about see him in a supporting role. There is of course an age issue (hes younger than Affleck), but having been around since his late teens, in audience minds he could get away with playing considerably older.
Or Why Not: Robert De Niro Because hes at that point where hell do just about anything. And I guess he could be OK at it, maybe.
