Batman V Superman: 34 Easter Eggs & References You Must See
32. KGBeast
Australian actor Callan Mulvery (who has previously appeared in 300 for Zack Snyder and Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Jack Rollins) turns up in the early desert battle sequence that has far too much hold on the rest of the plot. It takes a while for his name to be revealed (when Bruce Wayne turns detective), but when it is revealed he is Anatoli Knyazev the name should ring some Batfans' bells. In the comics, Knyazev was also known as KGBeast, having been created at the height of post-Cold War Russian fear. As in the film, he's an assassin, though he's more superpowered on the page than he is on screen, and comes with a sweet gun arm augmentation. In the film, The Beast is stripped of his more colourful costume, favouring a more muted henchman look, but he is covered in tattoos, which tell their own story. Many of them are designs used by Russian criminals to convey messages (political, criminal and personal). Most notable is the double headed eagle on his neck, which is a Russian state symbol, and obviously references back to his employment by Mother Russia in the comics.
