Batman Vs Superman Movie: 10 Beautiful Details It Must Have
5. The Depiction Of Loneliness
Man Of Steel is a film about an alien, in several ways: Kal-El is an alien is the planet Earth, and Clark Kent is an alien to Krypton. When Zod asks if he's turning his back on his people, it's difficult to tell who his people are. And the depiction of a lonely little boy who grows up to be a hero torn between two worlds is a compelling one. His father may have wanted for him to embrace the best of both civilisations, but often, he's a scared child being bullied, being responsible for disasters and not knowing where he's from. His chat with the government about trust sums up the whole film really; Clark is always on his own, and no matter what friends he makes, he'll always just have to trust people. There's a parallel there to the recluse millionaire that is Bruce Wayne. These two superhero gods will no doubt draw more comparisons, but the idea of the pair of them both being one of a kind is one that should explored more; it works so well in Man Of Steel, and Henry Cavill really plays it with a delicate poignancy.
