Batman vs Superman Movie: 10 Choices For Recasting Commissioner Gordon

1. The Female Commissioner: Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore If people struggled with the idea of a black Perry White, how about really mixing it up and casting a female Commissioner Gordon? Commissioner Barbara Gordon, that is. One of the best parts of Grant Morrison's epic run on Batman was the flash forward to a Gotham protected by Damian Wayne (Bruce's Son, deceased Robin) as a more brutal Batman, an anti-hero with an antagonistic relationship towards James Gordon's daughter, former Batgirl Barbara. It was a neat idea of showing how time had moved on, placing both children in their parents' position, and it makes a certain amount of sense in a couple of ways for a new film. Firstly, it provides another strong female character in a film franchise which can be applauded for the fact that it did genuinely attempt to use more women. It also removes any lingering comparisons with Gary Oldman, whilst introducing another feature of Batman lore €“ the status of his family of allies. Flashbacks to a young Barbara fighting alongside Batman and Nightwing could only deepen his ties to the city and demonstrate just what Bruce is fighting for. Get Karen Gillen or Jane Levy playing young Babs and introduce early versions of Batman's rogues gallery, and you have an instant potential spin off. It's a change that a lot of people won't like, but would potentially make for an interesting dynamic, altering the relationship between the Commissioner and Batman while showing off just how cool the main character can be. So, that's the selection, but what do you think? Is there one key aspect of Gordon's character that needs to be maintained? Does it need an older figure, or a young new face? And just who would be best to play the Commissioner in 2015's Batman vs. Superman?
