Batman vs Superman Movie: 10 Choices For Recasting Commissioner Gordon

8. The Best Friend Commissioner: Matt Damon

Matt Damon The thing about Gordon is that, for most of his career, he's been one of those things that billionaire Bruce Wayne has very few of - a friend. Now normally, any discussion about Batman's best friends would start with Superman, but in a film which is wholly defined by the title characters scrapping, we can't expect that we're going to see the easy-going relationship of two guys who get on really well. This leaves a vacancy for the role of Batman's BFF, which is unlikely to be filled by any of the other candidates (Dick Grayson, Alfred, the Brave and the Bold's Aquaman). Gordon becomes one of the few people who can really humanise Batman. That's going to be important, because without the time to set up Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne in what isn't actually his movie, there's the chance that he becomes too much of a solitary, uncaring vigilante. Who better to bring out the friendship between the two than Affleck's own best friend, Matt Damon? Whilst the idea that Damon would be cast in the film as Robin was an immediate Twitter joke, people seem to be forgetting that Damon is an excellent actor, and a big draw by himself. Plus, having Jason Bourne in charge of the Gotham City Police Department as potential back up for Batman in a battle against Superman would be awesome, and would allow for a subversion of the usual "Batman saves the Police force" shtick, by giving them something to do and show that Batman is as much an adopted son of Gotham as Superman is of Earth.
