Birds Of Prey - Every Character Explained

6. Renee Montoya

Birds of Prey Harley Quinn
Warner Bros.

Renee Montoya was once a fairly ground breaking character, though thankfully time has caught up with her a little bit, and her story has been reinvented to accommodate that. Initially, she was one of few queer characters in comics, and her position on the Gotham police force was under jeopardy as she tried and ultimately failed to keep her sexa secret.

She's got considerably more company these days - not least with Harley Quinn herself - but there's a lot more depth to her character as well. In more interesting versions of her story, she either works with Harvey Dent to form an uneasy truce between the cops and the mob, or is an alcoholic burn out.

In the latter versions, she teams up with (and then becomes) the Question, a master detective with a philosophical bent operating in Gotham. From what we've seen of Rosie Perez's version of the character, we'll be getting a bit of a combination.

Any obvious Question influence is nowhere to be seen, though Montoya does appear to have a significant role in the story, suggesting she will be a high ranking detective, possibly even on homicide as she was under Commissioner Gordon.
