Birds Of Prey - Every Character Explained

One of Black Canary’s biggest defining features in the comic books has been her crime fighting partnerships, either with her husband Detective Lance or Green Arrow. Though she has struck out on her own before - in the Birds Of Prey series, for example - it is a bit of a surprise to see her in a major movie before Arrow himself.

Black Canary, real name Dinah Drake or Dinah Lance depending on whether she and husband Larry have tied the knot yet, brings with her a somewhat unique power too.

As well as fairly standard martial arts skills and gymnastic ability, Canary also comes with her patented ‘Canary Scream’; a high pitch sonic screech which can incapacitate and blast away enemies. Typically she only uses this when in dire need, and has gotten the better of Batman without it.

In some versions, aiming her Canary Scream downwards even grants her the ability to glide through the air.

With all of the leading heroines being female here, it’s unlikely Canary will keep her links to Lance or Arrow here, and will instead be given room to breathe on her own.
