Bond - No Time To Die Trailer Review: 7 Ups & 4 Downs
1. It Feels Like A Continuation
This is not just the 25th Bond film, it's also the 5th Daniel Craig Bond film and the final chapter - supposedly - in a story that started out back with Casino Royale. At times, the mini-series within the grander franchise has lost its way somewhat and it was all a little jumbled in its order, but there are obviously still narrative threads that require resolution.
While the Blofeld elements of Spectre were quite roundly criticised (wrongly - fight me), having him come back and hint at more Bond secrets makes sense in the logic of his broader story, because that's what has haunted Craig's 007 all the way through. He's been haunted by a spectre, ironically, in a similar way to Jason Bourne - the character who very keenly inspired this take on England's most famous spy.
With this being the final step in Craig's story, it's important that it didn't just feel like a stand-alone story with no links elsewhere ported in at the last. We need the dramatic weight behind the suggestion that it has all led to this all along. And it does look like the trailer is hinting at something like that.
And now to the negatives...
