20 INSANE Horror Sequels We Almost Got
7. Saw VIII
Though the seventh Saw film, Saw 3D, was the final entry in the original run of Saw movies, that wasn't the initial plan.
Following completion of Saw VI, the franchise was set to bow out with an epic two-part finale, but after Saw VI massively underperformed at the box office, Lionsgate forced the planned story to be squeezed into just a single series-concluding entry.
This certainly provides a reasonable explanation for why Saw 3D is such a messily chaotic film, effectively rushing to get two movies' worth of storytelling into a single film.
While we don't know exactly how Saw VIII would've played out, Saw 3D writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton have suggested that far more time would've been devoted to setting up Dr. Gordon's (Cary Elwes) last-minute reveal as Jigsaw's "final" apprentice.
Instead, Saw 3D came and went, and it wasn't until 2017 that we got an actual eighth film with the wildly divisive Jigsaw.
